League of American Orchestras : The League of American Orchestra conference was held June 9-12 in Chicago this season. I got to reconnect with some wonderful agent friends Monrica Robinson, Dan Kamin, Bruce Thibauld, Hugh Kaylor, John Gingrich, Terri Jarelle, Bob Bauchens, Barry Oslavsky, and Joanne RIle) and meet new presenters from symphony orchestras throughout the U.S. This marks the beginning of Five By Design's 16th season in the symphony pops market. One of the best experiences I had was reconnecting with Kandie Berridge (Syryczuk), one of my former students from Thorp. WI. It was a marvelous time connecting with Kandie over coffee.

College of St. Catherine : April 30, 2009—Thursday afternoon we visited the Collge of St. Catherine's choral music department where we met Dr. Patricia Connors and St. Kate's women's choir. We shared our experiences, rehearsal techniques, and history with the choir; remembering not so long ago (15-23 years) we were once students in the classroom. Our biggest treat was hearing the Women's Choir perform a chant. It was a marvelous performance and Dr. Connors is to be congratulated for her dedication to choral music. Sometimes you never know what you'll hear, but the St. Kate's women's choir is an exceptional group of musicians with an extraordinary sound. Thanks for the treat!

Kudos to Richard Kaufman for his efficient rehearsal and personable manner. Five By Design also had to connect with another UW Eau Claire grad. Mark and Sue MacKenzie came to see fellow UWEC alums with the PSO. It turned out that Mark was originally from Lake City MN which incidentally where our tech director, Laurel Stinson is from. Thanks also to our sound man, Phil Henrickson, pianist Kurt Cowling, and drummer extraordinaire, Matt Edlund for providing their expert musicianship. Five By Design's Alton Accola also got the opportunity to meet Lisa Vroman. Vroman portrayed the role of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera for ten years and 2,800 performances.
